I just read something that supposedly came down from SCA corporate. They're stripping Pieter and Nan Astrid of all their titles and honors and everything. They don't know yet if they are going to impose the level 3(?) exile on them.

I wish that I knew what happened to cause this because based upon my last acessment these are good people. Though I must admit I am a little afraid to ask.

Comments will be screened.

I would encourage everyone to write to the board on the following two
issues.

1) The R&D of Pieter and Nan is under review. If you think that they
should be allowed to stay in the SCA with the stripping of their
titles write to the BOD.

2) If you think that the secrecy clause does more damage to the
organization than the protection it offers the corporation, write to
them to change that law. I have done this before and I said the same
thing to the Order of the Chivalry.

I'm in the same boat. I don't know what happened, and i'm not sure that i want to. From everything that i've heard, the Van D's are well liked, and are good people. I'm not sure i want to spoil that. But, at the same time, the banishment was upheld by B&B, whom i've actually met, and have a greater respect for. So, at this point, I don't know what to think.

I don't think you're wrong.

The bits and pieces that I've collected suggest that this is the result of a litterally decades old argument with a couple of prominent royal peers in Indiana. Pieter and Nan are stubborn people who, when they're convinced they're right, don't back down. The other parties are equally stubborn and happen to have the political upper hand. Thus, they've been able to come to the verge of kicking Pieter and Nan out of the hobby because they vehemently don't agree on some things.

I think both sides are wrong, simply because it's causing everyone ELSE problems because of the argument.

What I think is really wrong is the secrecy built into the process. It's a hideous way of handling issues. If the facts of the case can't stand the light of day, then maybe there's a problem with the so-called facts.

(sigh)

I've already written my comments to the BoD.

I first read about it in my December Crystal Quill (our Baronial Newsletter) and its also in the Northwatch. I'm interested to hear why people think this happened but I know I might never learn.

While I do not know this organization, sometimes it seems that too much confidentiality can cause confusion and descent. I agree with AztecKnight - knowing some of the basics, but obviously keeping it within the SCA organization itself would really help people understand why such a harsh punishment is going on. Diane - do you know these people, aka could you ask them yourself to see about closure for you?

I could, but I don't think that would be terribly polite of me
